Destiny’s Child by Candlelight

The Candlelight concert at the Bell Tower offered a version of Destiny’s Child and Beyoncé’s music that felt more intimate than what most listeners are used to hearing. The room was filled with devoted fans who sang along gently, almost instinctively, as if the lyrics were part of their own personal history. Watching that happen deepened my own appreciation for the songs.

Beauty and the Beast: The Musical

Sitting in the Hobby Center watching this reimagined national tour of Beauty and the Beast: The Musical, I realized the show did more than entertain. It taught many kids, especially girls, that thinking was part of being brave.

Brandon Woody’s Upendo at the El Dorado Ballroom

Brandon Woody signed with Blue Note Records in November 2024 and released his debut album "For The Love Of It All" in May 2025. The New York Times and Los Angeles Times have both identified him as a rising force in contemporary jazz. He is a Bach-endorsed artist with growing international recognition. But none of that tells you what it feels like to hear him play in a room.

Nova Twins, London duo Georgia South and Amy Love, turned their Tiny Desk concert into a bass-heavy, distortion-driven shock to expectations. Launching into “Cleopatra,” “Monsters,” and “Hummingbird,” they showcased massive pedal setups and fierce energy, ending with the crowd-charged “Choose Your Fighter,” redefining what a rock performance can look and sound like.
